Description Review

The resulting colour will depend on your intial hair colour and the method of application and how long it is left on for. It will usually give reddish brown undertones on brown hair. On light coloured hair - grey, white or blonde - it will give a more orange/red tone.

Combining Henna with Indigo to get a red/brown, brown or a black shade

When henna is used with indigo it can give shades of different browns to black. The resulting colour depends on the method used, how long you leave it on for, and the proportion of henna and indigo used.

There are 2 ways of doing this:

Method 1. Dye your hair first with henna so it goes auburn/red then dye your hair with indigo so the auburn/red turns to brown. To achieve the desired shade you need to leave the indigo on for the right amount of time. The longer the indigo is left on for the darker it will be. If you leave it on the maximum time it can go black.

Method 2. Soak the henna overnight. Mix the indigo with water just before you are ready to use it. Thoroughly mix the henna mixture together with the indigo mixture. To get a more red /brown shade use a large percentage of henna. To get a darker brown use a larger proportion of indigo. To get a black shade use Method 1.

Trial and error may be necessary to get the desired shade because everyone’s hair is different and will take the colour differently.

Quantity of henna needed

The following quantities are for average thickness hair:

short hair - 50 gms henna

shoulder length hair - 100 gms henna

mid back length hair - 200gms henna

Excellent Organic Henna

It's Pure is simple to apply and gives a rich deep red colour which is usually much admired.

I am allergic to chemical dyes and this is a great non-irritatant and organic alternative.

Dying Grey Hair

My experience of using the 'Its Pure Certified Organic Henna Powder for Hair':
I became allergic to chemical hair dyes and by chance came across a video on YouTube explaining that it was possible to cover grey hair with Henna.
Having used Henna many years ago, I knew that it was a safe product for me and decided to give it a go.
I followed the instructions in the video tutorial exactly, washing my hair first to get rid of any products, using a natural shampoo bar , no conditioner.

I mix the 3 colours of Henna powder, exactly as instructed, weighing it out on my kitchen scales, which is easy as its about ratios rather than weight. For the colour to take, there has to be a 30% ratio of the Red Henna in the mix (Lawsonia).

The mix I use is 60g of Indigo (Black Henna)
35g of Lawsonia (Red Henna)
5g of Cassia Leaf Powder (this gives more golden and less red highlights to my dark brown hair).

Apply straight away with a colour brush to the hair, (after mixing with very warm water from the tap to a consistency of thick Greek yoghurt) start parting the hair across the length of scalp, working from one side to the other making sure all of the hair is covered well with the product. Be patient and methodical, it works.

I then pile my hair up and put on a plant based plastic shower cap, which I re use.
Then put on a warm hat and leave for 4.5 hours. Its the warmth which helps to cure the colour in to the hair.

Rinse the Henna off with warm water and condition really well, including scalp, then give a really light wash with a moisturising shampoo bar.

The results are always really good and last for about 4-5 weeks for me.

I have been using the 'It's Pure' Henna powders for many years now and have never had any problems, only good results.
I have also tried other brands but found that the end colour can look less natural, i.e., the red can look dyed rather than a natural brunette.

I now live in Portugal and am about to stock up again, really glad to see that shipping to Europe is possible!!

One of the best hena I used. It didn’t make my hair dry and the colour is amazing.

Good value product

I have used a few different henna products over the years (most memorably the Body Shop and Lush) and I am happy with this pure natural henna. I prefer to use henna than chemical dyes - something I haven’t used since I was a teenager in the 90s! This was easy to mix up and it didn’t seem to make so much of a mess with no noticeable bits dropping off during application. I am happy with the colour and it will be interesting to see how long it stays vibrant for. I felt that the price was very reasonable compared to lush and my reason for choosing this product was that I trusted the source of ingredients compared with other unknown brands online.
