Indigo used in Conjunction with Henna
There are 2 methods of using henna and indigo to get brown or black tones:
I purchased indigo black as my sister uses it. My Locs are quite long and the colour rubbed off on my collars and jacket. Never had this happen before, so disappointed.
Excellent quality
Thank you 😊
I wouldn’t use anything else for my hair. I’ve never been disappointed with the quality of the It’s Pure indigo and henna. I have dark brown hair with a hint of auburn when the sun shines through it. I use these fine, natural powders to cover grey hair.
For my long (bra strap length), thick hair with approx 25% 2” long grey roots, this is my routine:
- In a glass bowl I mix up one third of a bag (33g) of henna with 2-3 tablespoons of fresh lemon juice and hot, not boiling water, and mix it all thoroughly with a spoon, ensuring I get any lumps out. Add as much liquid as you need to wet all of the henna and get a smooth mixture. Now cover with cling film, and leave in a warm place.
- After 20 to 30 minutes, the henna should have released its dye (lawsome). You can check this by using a spoon to carefully move back some of the top of the henna mixture, and you will see a much darker colour underneath.
- I then add one whole packet (100g) of the indigo powder to the henna, and add enough room temperature water until I achieve the consistency of thick Greek yoghurt. Mix it all very well to remove lumps. It is now ready to apply.
To achieve the brown/auburn colour to match my hair, the proportions above are what I use (1:3, henna:indigo). I leave it on my hair for at least 6-7 hours, before washing off with warm water and conditioner. Dry and style as usual. I try to avoid washing it for one week after dying it. The henna will oxidise over a few days and go slightly darker. My grey hair is now gone and the rest of my hair is healthy and shiny. Yes, it’s a laborious task, but I would much rather do this, than have artificial and arguably dangerous, chemicals seeping into my scalp and my skin. That’s why I choose a natural, organic product like It’s Pure.
I love using indygo and henna. It feels natural and safe.My hair has never been so shiny and soft.Lots of people complement my hair.I am happy I found healthy alternative to colour my grey hair.
Love using henna and indigo together - rich colour and makes my hair all glossy. I’ve had so many compliments on it! Easy to apply too.
