Never considered using henna and indigo to colour my hair before, as I was skeptical whether it would work on my fine, dry, frizzy medium-length thinning hair and dye-resistant greys. I found that most standard high street/supermarket chemical box dyes no longer seem to work on my grey hairs. I got an incredible result the first time using It's Pure Henna + Indigo, although it was a lengthy process - I put aside the full bank holiday weekend to do it in order to get the best possible result. On Fri eve, I soaked the henna overnight mixed with 200ml lemon juice&100ml water. The next day I applied to my full head, gently massaging and combing the mixture through my hair to get optimal coverage and applying the surplus henna mixture to my dye resistant greys. When I washed off about 3.5 hours later, I achieved a light copper result. Instead of throwing away the leftover henna, I re-used it the next day and repeated the process, this time getting a rich bronze colour. On the third day, I mixed the indigo with warm water and most importantly, salt, and applied to my hair, gently massaging and combing through as best I could to ensure maximum coverage. I continued applying leftover indigo mix to my dye resistant greys throughout the development time. 5 hours later when I rinsed out the indigo from my hair, I got the most amazingly intense black colour - My hair hasn't looked so dark in years. The only reason I've given 4/5 instead of 5/5 stars, is that I wasn't aware that henna and indigo can induce cold/flu like symptoms in people with autoimmune conditions, as they apparently produce a cooling effect and can also cause irritation if accidentally breathed in - As it was my first experience using henna & indigo, I would have appreciated the heads up! I've managed to get around this by wearing a face mask so less chance of accidentally inhaling the henna & indigo powders and making sure I keep warm & hydrated during the application. From now on, I'd likely just do a full head application 1-2 times a year, then opt for root touch ups, I've found that mixing up 1/2 plastic desert spoon of henna + indigo and warm water (no salt, it affects the pH of the henna) and leaving on for 3-4 hours has been enough to cover my greys in between times. I do like how the henna and indigo coats the hair, making it feel and look fuller. Just sad I didn't consider trying henna and indigo sooner, instead of damaging my hair all these years with harsh, chemical high street/supermarket box dyes!
